Professor Patricia Casey has written a column for the Evening Herald for the past three years. This column has provided valuable support for readers with emotional or psychiatric issues.
Knowing that a column in a newspaper can only achieve `so much`, Professor Casey decided to write a book, bringing together all the topics that seemed to concern her readers.
From the Heart is designed to educate the public about psychiatric disorder, to dispel some of the common myths and to assist those who have specific problems. If these goals are achieved, this might help to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness that is still present in Ireland today.
Prof. Casey deals with all aspects of emotional and psychiatric illness, covering a wide range of subjects under the following headings:
• Alternative therapies
• Anxiety disorders
• Eating disorders
• Personality disorders
• Psychiatric/psychological services
• Psycho-sexual disorders
• Substance abuse
From the Heart is written for the general reader in an accessible style, avoiding the use of medical jargon. The format is simple: a question followed by an answer, with recommended, reading, contact numbers/addresses and websites listed at the end of each question.
