Plans are afoot to make Bantry, Book STEPs' home town, a Fairtrade town.  So this month we're highlighting Fair Trade as our book of the month.   We've also included some information on Fairtrade from IFAT below and a selection of other books related to the topic.  You can find several useful Fairtrade links on our links list too.

What is Fair Trade?

Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade.

Key principles

There is a number of set-in-stone principles that Fair Trade evolves around:

  • Creating opportunities for economically disadvantaged producers
  • Transparency and accountability
  • Capacity building
  • Payment of a fair price
  • Gender equity
  • Safe and healthy working conditions
  • The environment

There are two main labels to help you distinguish Fair Trade Organizations

On products: the Fair Trade Label
